BUILD AN AMESBURY ROWING SKIFF with Jeff Lane
March 16 - April 22 Monday & Wednesday nights from 5-9 p.m. for six weeks

Build a 14' Rowing skiff with Jeff Lane. The class builds one boat which is raffled off at the end of the class for the cost of materials. This class is open to all skill levels, all materials and tools will be provided however students are encouraged to bring and use their own. The class will cover basic lofting, layout, wood selection, hand and power tool use, planking, fastening, etc.
TOOL SHARPENING with Alan Cormier
Wednesday January 21st from 6-9 p.m.
Tuition $50 (10% Discount for members)

Learn to properly sharpen your tools with Lowell's Boat Shop lead volunteer Alan Cormier.
Lessons to include:
Determining the cutting bevel angle
Tuning (polishing) the back of the blade
Squaring up a chisel or plane blade and removing nicks in the cutting edge
Rough grinding if necessary
Hollow grinding on a machine (expensive) vs flat grinding on sandpaper (cheap)
Honing the ground blade (oil vs water stones)
Maintenance of the honed blade
Tuning the body of a plane
OAR MAKING with Graham McKay and Ben Loveless
Thursday March 5, 6-9 p.m.
Saturday March 7, 8 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Tuesday March 10, 6-9 p.m.

Come learn to make oars with Lowell's Boat-builders Graham McKay and Ben Loveless.
The course will cover wood selection, oar layout and patterning. Students will complete at least one oar (two if they're good!) over the duration of the course and go home with a blank for their second oar.
The course takes place at Lowell's Boat Shop, in our fully equipped classroom. Bring your tools if you have them, we have plenty if you don't.
