Build your own traditional Aleutian or Greenland Paddle
Thursday October 22 from 6-9 p.m. and
Saturday October 24 from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Traditional Greenland and Aleutian paddles are intended to custom fit one person, and your paddle will be unique to you. Over the course of the class, we will cover:
- Paddle sizing
- Tool Safety
- Carving techniques
- Outlining a Paddle
- Paddle Carving
Everyone goes home with the paddle they make!
What you will need to bring:
No tools are required - we will provide all the tools needed to make a paddle. If you have tools and would like to bring them, a hand plane, spoke shave, and strong knife are most useful.
Measurements of the kayak you use (or intend to use), intended use of paddle (touring, puttering, surfing), and personal paddling style.
Your kayak! We'll finish Saturday's class by taking a paddle on the Merrimack with the new paddles!
What will be provided:
- All the tools that you will need
- Instruction and guidance throughout the day
- A spruce paddle blank
- The knowledge you need to make another paddle on your own
- A fun learning environment at the oldest continuously operating boat shop in America!
